Beach Series with Dawn #3: Ocean City Boardwalk

This will be one of 8 hikes on or near beaches. The others are northend of Brigantine (scheduled for 3/14), Longport Beach (scheduled for 3/4), Corson’s Inlet and the southern tip of OC, North Wildwood seawall and Wildwood Boardwalk, around the tip of Cape May, Highs Beach (on Delaware Bay), and Thompson’s Beach (also on Delaware Bay). They will vary from 3 miles to 7 miles; but all at a slow to moderate pace. All will incorporate breaks, the longer hikes will incorporate a 20 minute lunch break.

We will walk down 6th Street to the boardwalk, head south to the end, turn around, head north to the end, head back to 6th Street, to our vehicles. Just a nice walk on the boards in the off season. At the north end there are views of the AC skyline. Along the boardwalk is obviously the ocean and dunes on one side and many gorgeous homes on the other. Often see birds on the dunes. This hike will be about 6 miles.

Pace will be about 24 minute miles or 2.5 miles per hour which allows for photo breaks. My motto is “If you need to slow down or stop, let me know; if you are in a hurry you picked the wrong leader.”

Meeting place will be as close to the corner of 6th and Wesley as I can park. The restrooms adjacent to Gillians are closed but the ones at the Music Pier (8th Street) and the ones at approximately 12th Street are open.

I will give the safety talk at 10:15 and then start.

Bring water, snacks; dress appropriately for the weather next to the beach..
Cold rain, deep snow, high winds cancels/postpones.
